Florida Keys Hawkwatch

Florida Keys Hawkwatch

Florida Keys Hawkwatch is a research program that monitors bird migration through the Florida Keys based in Curry Hammock State Park near Marathon. They are onsite daily from August through October daily with limited coverage into November depending on availability of funding and staffing.

They tally each migrating bird they see but raptors / birds are prey are the specialty. Count totals can be followed in near real time on Trektellen. Compared to other US based hawkwatches, Florida Keys Hawkwatch is unique. They regularly tally the highest counts of Peregrine Falcons in the world, have massive Osprey flights, and are the only US hawkwatch to count massive numbers of Swallow-tailed Kites numbering world class counts of thousands annually! Other unique species tallied here include hundreds of Short-tailed Hawks.
