Arnaud Valade has been a bird and nature lover for most of his life. He started out doing migratory bird counts and censuses with the Rimouski Bird Observatory in eastern Quebec and is now leading field work on the impacts of deer grazing and habitat configuration on Wood Thrushes and other mid-canopy nesters. When the field season is over, Arnaud spends most of his time doing bird recording analysis for various projects, keeping his ear muscles ready for the spring to come. Arnaud guides bird tours all over Canada and Central America with Eagle-Eye Tours and loves to share his passion with birders from all over the world. He loves seawatching, hawkwatching, gulling, patch-birding, vagrant-traps, visual migration as well as more laid back outings in good company.
Arnaud sits on the board of directors for QuebecOiseaux, which promotes birding and bird conservation in the province. He also gives talks and writes articles for the organization’s media outlets. Arnaud is also a part of the revision committee for french bird names, responsible for giving french common names for birds in North-America. Along with a few friends, he also organizes events for the birding community in Quebec in an effort to bring people together in this vast territory.
Arnaud is also a documentary film director and editor. He recently participated in a few critically acclaimed films and is now researching a new project on how ornithology and birding transforms our relationship with ecology.
Most of all, Arnaud is always inquisitive and finds as much joy in sharing knowledge as in learning from others.
